Synchronous Motors
Synchronous motors are often used to drive DC generators and are designed for up to thousands of horsepower. When operated under specific conditions, synchronous motors are capable of correcting the low power factor of an inductive load. Synchronous motors work as the application of three-phase AC power to the stator causes a rotating magnetic field, which is then set up around the rotor. The rotors of the synchronous motors are then energized with DC. The strong rotating magnetic field of the synchronous motors attracts the strong rotor field activated by the DC. This method allows the motor to run smoothly.
